Covy

March 16th, 2025. A second chance after a fight for his life.

Covy- A gentle, normally spirited young adult cat was involved in a serious dog fight that left him with multiple wounds just 3 weeks prior to the 16th. After 17 days on antibiotics, his external injuries appeared to be resolving. But something still wasn’t right.

Upon the examination with the DVM, no pain was noted in the abdominal palpation, however there was a large, soft, mobile mass found. This mass was suspicious, could it be a walled off abscess or a hernia?

Either or surgical explorations were necessary. Unfortunately, Covy’s owner, already struggling financially, was unable to afford such an expensive diagnostic surgery. Given we had already been managing Covy with medical therapy, but the lack of improvement and suspicion of a serious underlying issue left us with two options: surgery or humane euthanasia.

Given Covy’s young age, overall health, and the owner’s deep bond and demonstrated commitment to his care, we made the decision to support his treatment through the Karissa Wilson Fund—a donation-supported initiative that helps pets in urgent need when their families cannot afford  care.

Thanks to the Karissa Wilson fund and everyone who donated, Covy’s surgery was successful and he has recovered fully. His story is a powerful reminder of how compassion, community support, and second chances can make all the difference.
